Ferdous Ahmed, the Dhallywood-famed superstar candidate in Dhaka-10 constituency from Awami League, has won his first-ever National Election by a great margin.

He was victorious with 65,898 votes with the boat symbol.

His closest competitor, Shamsul Alam, with the mango symbol from the National People's Party, received 2,257 votes.

Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sabirul Islam announced the result in a briefing at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's office on Sunday (January 7).

Sharing his instant reaction after his victory, Ferdous told the media that he was initially nervous before the election but eventually became hopeful with the increased number of voters throughout the day.

“I am immensely grateful to all of my voters, especially the youth - and also to all the wings of Bangladesh Awami League for assisting me with constant support. People showered me with their votes which I count as blessings, and I will try my best to return this love,” he told media.

“Throughout the entirety of my candidacy and campaign, many were doubtful about my success as a debutant candidate. Voters in this area, including our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have blessed me with their votes - and I am forever grateful,” Ferdous said.

Celebrities and media personalities have been congratulating Ferdous after the announcement of the result, both in person and on social media.
