A ferry loaded with a number of vehicles capsized in the Padma River in Paturia of Manikganj Wednesday morning.

The incident took place around 9:45am at pontoon-5 while no casualties were reported.

The ferry, Amanat Shah, was carrying 17 trucks laden with goods, confirmed Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Director (Commerce) SM Ashiquzzaman.

Abdus Sattar, assistant director general (marine) of BIWTC Aricha office, said the incident occurred after the ferry reached Paturia ghat from Rajbari’s Daulatdia.

He, however, could not confirm the reason behind the capsize.

Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at the control room of Fire service and Civil Defence, said members of the diving unit were conducting rescue operations.
