Ferry operation between Chilmari and Rowmari River Ports resumed on Monday around 36 hours after a collapse of mud under the pontoon boat ramp at Rowmari Port.

As a result, a sigh of relief returned among locals, traders and others involved with the river ports.

A ferry ‘Kunjolata’ carrying 10 vehicles left for Rowmari from Chilmari at 7 am on Monday.

Propulla Chauhan, manager (commercial-Chilmari) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), confirmed the development, saying that the ferry movement between the river ports was restored on Monday noon after the broken down pontoon was fixed. However, the ferry service remained suspended for hours.

Locals said over 100 trucks were stranded on both banks of the river when the collapse under the pontoon boat ramp occurred due to heavy tide on Saturday afternoon.
