Ferry services at the Shimulia-Banglabazar route has been resumed after a 47-day suspension.

A ferry named Kunjalata left Shimulia ghat for Banglabazar around 10:30 am on Monday and arrived at the Banglabazar ferry terminal around 1 pm, confirmed the master of the ferry, Md Saiful.

He said: “Due to the high current and naviligibility crisis on the Padma River, the ferry services were suspended for the last 47 days. Although the problems remain somewhat same, we are resuming the services on a trial basis.”

He also told The Business Post that the ferry carried seven private cars, seven pickups, three covered vans, and 20 motorcycles at its first trip.

Earlier on August 18, the BIWTC suspended all ferry services on the route for an indefinite period due to strong current in the Padma River.

The decision came after at least five ferries hit the Padma Bridge pillars between July and August this year.
