The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today stayed a High Court order that granted bail to former Bangladesh Awami Juba League leader Alamgir Hossain Chan in connection with the sensational Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case in Tangail.
A bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Thursday following a petition filed by the state seeking a stay on the HC order.
Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Debnath, who represented the state before the court, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Earlier, the HC granted bail to Alamgir Hossain in the case.
On January 18, 2013, Faruk Ahmed, also an Awami League leader, was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town. Three days after the killing, Faruk’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station against some unnamed people.
Later, 14 people, including four brothers of Tangail’s influential Khan family, were made accused in the murder case.
These four accused are -- former member of parliament Amanur Rahman Khan Rana and his three brothers - Rahman Khan Mukti, Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon and Saniyat Khan Bappa.
Besides, Amanur Rahman Khan Rana’s associates Kabir Hossain, Babu Mia, Anisul Islam Raja, Mohammad Ali, Farid Mia and Samir Hossain; and Alamgir Hossain, Nasir Uddin Nuru, Sanwar Hossain and Masudur Rahman were also made accused in this case.
