Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has requested Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to provide continuous support to Bangladesh to minimise the effects of the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak and the resultant nationwide shutdown.
“We have been constantly working to address the potential negative impacts of the shutdown on the economy. Under the current circumstances, Bangladesh’s economy needs constant support from AIIB,” the finance minister told reporters on Thursday after a teleconference with AIIB President Jean Liqun at finance minister’s residence.
The minister expressed his gratitude to AIIB President for creating a 1000cr dollar fund for the member countries to help reduce the risks and effects of the novel coronavirus on the economy.
He also thanked AIIB for its continuous support and pledge of $450 million in financial assistance to Bangladesh for emergency services and budget support in the health sector.
