Gulshan fire tamed after 4 hours, 1 confirmed dead

Md Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury, secretary of security services department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the fire in the residential building at Gulshan-2 number in the capital has been brought under control.

He said that, the fire was completely under control at 11pm on Saturday. 

“Our rescue team has entered. They are conducting rescue operations. So far, we heard one person has died.”

Mayor Atiqul Islam said that they heard one person died in this incident.

“Many people came out from the inside of the building,” he said.

“One male died. However, his identity yet known,” The DMCH source said.

Local people claimed that several people were injured by jumping from the building.

Fire Service and Civil Defense Director General Brigadier General Md Main Uddin said the cause of the fire is not yet known. It will be known later after investigation.

Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate Brigadier General Md Main Uddin has announced the decision to form a five-member prob committee on the Gulshan fire case.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “The member of fire service, army, airforce are working into the building to find any people inside. So far we know that there are no body in building.” 

Mayor also said that they could have brought the fire under control earlier.  But the real truth is that we have been trying for two and a half hours for people croud. 

“The fire brigade is doing the work step by step as per their protocol,” he said.
