A fire that broke out on the Barishal Plaza near Bangabazar in the capital on Saturday morning was doused.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident at around 8:05am, and the first firefighting unit reached the spot at 08:06am, according to an update from the media cell of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).
Fourteen firefighting units worked to bring the fire under control at around 8:45am, and doused at around 9:40am. However, the cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
On April 4, a devastating fire gutted the Bangabazar market in Dhaka, destroying clothing products worth more than Tk 1,000 crore, and leaving traders – who had been waiting for the lucrative Eid sales – effectively penniless.
Forty-eight firefighting units of the FSCD had rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at around 12:36pm the same day, after more than six hours of frantic effort. The fire was finally doused on Friday morning, more than 75 hours after it broke out.
