In the wake of Cyclone Midhili, the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) cleared fallen trees from the road in 51 disaster-prone places from 6am to 9pm on Friday across the country.
Of these, four incidents occurred in different parts of Dhaka division, 26 in Chattogram division and 21 in Barishal division, said Shahjahan Sikder, DAD (Media cell) of the FSCD.
Local fire stations removed all these trees and made the roads fit for traffic, he added.
The Fire Service has not yet received any reports of casualties, although UNB was able to ascertain at least two deaths in Chattogram division from local administration.
A total of 51 fire stations in disaster-prone areas are continuously alerting residents to prepare for Cyclone Midhili.
A central monitoring cell has been established at the Fire Service’s headquarters in Dhaka to coordinate all pre-cyclone, during, and post-cyclone activities.
Additionally, control rooms in Khulna, Chattogram, and Barishal divisions are monitoring the situation continuously. A departmental monitoring cell has been established in Khulna.
According to a press release, the fire service has completed all preparations to deal with the cyclone as per the instructions of the Security Service Division, Ministry of Home Affairs.
