Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said firm action will be taken in accordance with the law if anyone accused of corruption tries to leave the country after facing a travel ban.

The IGP made this remark while speaking to journalists after a procession celebrating the 110th anniversary of the Dhaka Range of police in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Monday.

In recent times, following widespread media coverage of the corruption allegedly carried out by a number of current and former government officials, many such people are hastily leaving the country.

Commenting on the matter, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, “The police follow the law, and they cannot stop anyone at any time. A legal process is necessary.

“I assure that if there are legal instructions to ban the foreign travel of individuals accused of corruption, appropriate action will be taken.”

Congratulating Dhaka Range on the occasion of its foundation anniversary, the IGP said, “I am optimistic that the Dhaka Range Police, who fired the first bullet in the great war of independence, will perform their duties more faithfully in service of the country.”
