After Eid-ul Adha, the prices of all kinds of fish and chicken have come down further but suddenly the price of eggs has gone up without any reason. And the prices of vegetables are as high as before.

On Friday, it was seen that the prices of all types of sweet and salty water fish have come down to Tk 20-Tk 100 per kg. However, the price of hilsa fish has decreased the most. Hilsa reigns in the market now. Besides small and medium-size, large-size hilsa is also available in abundance in the market. And the prices are also quite low as the supply is high.

The price of hilsa has come down to Tk 100 per kg in a week. At present, hilsa weighing one kg is being sold in the market at Tk 1000 to 1100 per kg. Hilsa weighing 750 grams is priced at Tk 650 to Tk 700 per kg, hilsa weighing 500 grams is priced at Tk 450 to Tk 550 per kg.

Besides, small hilsa is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 350 per kg depending on the size.

Idris Mia, a fishmonger in Karwan Bazar, said a large quantity of hilsa had been caught in the sea over the past few days. Now they have come to the capital’s market. As the supply increased a lot, so the prices had come down. The price of other fish has also come down due to hilsa.

The price of chicken has come down from Tk 20 to Tk 50 per kg in a week. In these markets, broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 120 to Tk 130 per kg, down to Tk 20 per kg in a week. Red layer chicken is being sold at Tk 220 per kg and white layer chicken at Tk 180 per kg. And Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg is reduced to Tk 250 to Tk 280 per kg of golden chicken is being sold. Domestic chicken is being sold at Tk 550-560 per kg.

Fazlur Rahman, a chicken vendor in Mohammadpur Town Hall Market, said the demand for chicken in the market is a bit low even before Eid. The demand for chicken has not increased much yet. On the other hand, supply is normal. As a result, the price of chicken has come down considerably.

However, after Eid, the price of chicken has come down but the price of eggs has gone up. Eggs have increased from Tk 10 to 20 per dozen. Each dozen red eggs are being sold at Tk 120, domestic chicken eggs at Tk 160 and duck eggs at Tk 140 to Tk 150.

Meanwhile, the prices of beef and mutton have also remained unchanged. At present, beef is being sold at Tk 550 per kg in the market. Mutton is being sold at Tk 750-Tk 780 per kg.

It has been seen that in these markets, most vegetables and green chilli are being sold at higher prices as before. Depending on the market, per kg asparagus bean is being sold at Tk 60-Tk70/kg, snake gourd at Tk 50-Tk60/kg, green papaya at Tk 50-Tk60, pointed gourd at Tk 50, balsam apple at Tk 70-Tk80, ridge gourd at Tk 50-Tk60, arum at Tk 40-Tk 60 and sweet bitter gourd at Tk 50-Tk60. And a kg of potato is being sold at Tk 32-Tk35.

Besides, ripe tomatoes are being sold at Tk 100-Tk120 per kg, carrots at Tk 80-Tk 90 per kg and cucumbers at Tk 50- Tk 60 per kg. And a kg of green chilli is being sold at Tk180-Tk200.

Buyers and sellers have mixed reactions to the increased prices of vegetables. Meanwhile, vendors say there is a crisis of vegetables in the wholesale market due to countrywide floods. The prices of all kinds of vegetables is a little higher. And buyers say there is no shortage of vegetables in the market, but sellers have raised prices on the pretext of floods.
