Five held in Bogura over TikTok video disrespecting national anthem

Police have arrested five people in Bogura on charges of making a TikTok video disrespecting the national anthem.

The detainees are Mishkat Hossain, Nur-e-Islam Alif, Arif Ali, Alif Ahmed Sujan, and Mehedi Hasan.

The arrested were detained from different areas of Bogura city during a drive on Monday and Tuesday, said a press note issued by the media and public relations wing of the police.

‎It came to their notice that a video has been in circulation on TikTok shows that some youths standing in front of Shaheed Minar of a Bogura primary school distorting and mocking the national anthem of Bangladesh, the press note said.

Later, the district police were asked to find the youths and bring them under the law quickly.

Legal action against those detained is under process, it further said.

Legal action can be taken for such action under ‘The Bangladesh National Anthem, Flag and Emblem Order, 1972’.

In addition, the Digital Security Act provides for such crimes using a digital medium.‎
