Five people, including four of a family, were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj in the early hours of Saturday.
The accident took place in the Shahpur area around 4am.
Shayestaganj highway police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jashim Mia said a microbus carrying an expatriate and his relatives, was heading towards Kulaura in Moulvibazar from Dhaka airport.
The microbus collided head-on with a sand-laden truck at Shahpur while a pickup van hit the microbus from behind at the same time, leaving three people dead on the spot and five others injured, he said.
The injured were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital where two others succumbed to their injuries, the police official added.
The deceased were — Atikur Rahman Shihab, Abdus Salam, Sadia Akter, and a minor girl, residents of Madanagar village in Kulaura upazila, and microbus driver Sadir Ali, a resident of Kamalasila village in the upazila.
