“Students should focus on research and development, engage in creative learning, and aspire to achieve high ambitions for their future. This dedication can not only benefit the individuals but also contribute to the country by fostering innovation and creating something new.”

The University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) Founder and Chairman Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman who is also the chairman of the PHP Family said this virtually at the fall newcomer orientation 2023 held at the university’s campus on Monday.

He also said, “I want to thank the guardians who keep faith in us and admit their children at UITS rather than other universities. We have to work cooperatively to build our golden Bangla to diamond Bangla.”

“Prepare yourself to keep pace with the world of tomorrow. Future world leadership will come through your hands.”

“Every student should read ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ written by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Through his courageous leadership, we got our independence in only nine months and this is rare in the world.”

Dr Farooq Hossan, associate professor and dean of Business faculty gave the inaugural speech. After that, the fresher students expressed their joy to be admitted to UITS. 

Prof Dr Md Mashiur Rahman, vice chancellor of National University, Bangladesh was present as the chief guest of the ceremony and said, “The youth who are admitted here today are the future of the country. They should have access to various e-books, and e-journals. You have to compete with any university student in any other country in the world. Raise yourself whole like that.”

“Currently, you have to work to fulfil the purpose of the university through creativity, research and innovation. University helps you to dream, it is your responsibility to fulfil it.”

Professor Dr K M Saiful Islam Khan, provost of Sir AF Rahman Hall, University of Dhaka and advisor of the board of trustees and vice-chancellor of UITS also addressed the ceremony.

UITS is the first IT-based private university in Bangladesh which was founded on August 7, 2003 as a non-profit organisation. Information Science and Technology Solution Ltd (ISTS), a concern of the PHP group, headed by Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, is the sponsor of the university. UITS introduced students with the highest qualified faculties with foreign degrees.

According to Professor Md ANM Shareef, examination controller of UITS, there are 10 departments under four faculties and 16 different programmes are running where a total of 2,976 students are are pursuing their degrees and approximately 1,000 newcomers are embarking on their journey.

The faculties are Science and Engineering, Business, Law and Liberal Arts and Social Science. UITS campus area is 1.075 acres with 100 permanent and 8 adjunct faculty members who are currently teaching at the university. There are 36 different lab facilities for the faculties of science, business and social science.

Other on-campus facilities include a medical centre, multi-purpose hall, eight buses for students, four micro-buses for teachers, a gymnasium, cafeteria, prayer halls for both males and females, two large libraries with almost 25,000 different books, a seminar library for each department, a large playground, etc.
