Food aid for 2400 city workers under BILS’ initiative launched

Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies-BILS and Danish Trade Union Development Agency-DTDA have stood beside some 2,400 affected workers amid the Covid-19 pandemic in the city.

With the initiative of BILS, the food aid distribution programme was launched on Thursday at the Labour Bhaban auditorium in the city.

At the inaugural event, food items were handed over to 13 national trade union federations to distribute those among working people.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian was present as the chief guest at the event presided over by BILS Chairman Habibur Rahman Siraj, said a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, the state minister appreciated the humanitarian gestures of BILS and DTDA as they stood beside the working people amid the crisis.

Recalling the Danish government’s unwavering support for Bangladesh in the War of Liberation, she said the issue has always been reflected in all cooperation of the Danish government.

The Danish envoy said Denmark wants to stand by the working people in Bangladesh and their government always welcomes the tripartite initiative taken to resolve all sorts of problems in Bangladesh’s labour sector.
