Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, the Awami League candidate for Naogaon-1, has been served a show-cause notice for violating the electoral code of conduct.

Joypurhat Assistant Judge Iftekhar Shahriar, also the chairman of the Election Enquiry Committee for the Naogaon-1 constituency, sent the notice on Monday afternoon.

The minister has been asked to appear in person at the temporary office of the enquiry committee of Naogaon-1, and Naogaon District and Sessions Judge Court's Sapahar Senior Assistant Judge's Court at 3 pm on December 17 and reply to the show-cause notice.

According to the notice, a man complained to the Election Enquiry Committee that Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder violated the electoral code of conduct by organizing a rally at Saraigachi Primary School ground in Porsha upazila around 3pm on December 4.

The Election Inquiry Committee accepted the testimony of the complainant.

According to section 12 of the electoral code of conduct, no registered political party or its nominated candidate or independent candidate or any person on behalf of the candidate can launch any kind of election campaign before the scheduled time of three weeks.

According to the schedule announced for the 12th parliamentary election, the election symbols will be allocated on December 18.
