Foreign artists visit Gallery Cosmos

Over 150 prominent artists from 114 participating countries, including Bangladesh, and officials from Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday night visited Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier-71 printmaking studio at the Cosmos Centre in Dhaka’s Malibagh.

Gallery Cosmos, one of the most prominent art galleries in Dhaka, hosted an exclusive meet-up and dinner for the participating artists of the ongoing 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 on Sunday night.

Enayetullah Khan, prominent Bangladeshi entrepreneur, journalist, author and patron of arts and Founder-Managing Director of the Cosmos Group and Chairman of Cosmos Foundation, joined the event alongside Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, former foreign advisor of Bangladesh and President of Cosmos Foundation.

Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India; Romanian artist-sculptor Alexandru Poteca; Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director of Fine Arts Syeda Mahbuba Karim Mini and other distinguished personalities were also present. 

Several prominent Bangladeshi artists and art educators including Dhaka University Department of Fine Arts Assistant Professor Bishwajit Goswami; eminent artists Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Anukul Mojumder; young artists Abdullah Al Bashir, Iqbal Bahar Chy, Kamruzzoha; and art journalist Zahangir Alom also joined the event.

The visiting foreign artists experienced diverse Bangladeshi art of eminent local artists and master painters at the Cosmos Gallery and Cosmos Atelier-71 while sharing their artistic knowledge and experience of visiting Bangladesh and the ongoing Asian Art Biennale, according to artist Sourav Chowdhury, Executive Artistic Manager of Gallery Cosmos.

“Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier-71 have been organising this cultural exchange event since our inception, for visiting foreign artists taking part in the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh. As per our tradition, we hosted more than 150 foreign artists tonight; and we are thankful to the artists for their time and enthusiasm as well as Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) officials for visiting Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier-71,” he told UNB.

Earlier, the visiting foreign artists travelled to Tungipara via Padma Bridge to pay homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and participated in a day-long cruise and art camp on the Padma river, hosted by BSA.

The 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 was inaugurated on December 8 and will welcome visitors at BSA’s National Art Gallery, Segunbagicha in the capital till January 7, every day from 11 am to 8 pm.
