Former FBCCI VP Abu Alam Chowdhury passes away

Abu Alam Chowdhury, former vice-president of The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), passed away on Monday at the age of 75, at the capital’s United Hospital while undergoing treatment.

He was born on September 30, 1948 in a respected Muslim family in Chattogram. As a student, he played a commendable role in the great mass movement of 1969 against the then-Pakistani ruler.

Later, he initiated a business career in the media sector. Gradually he expanded his businesses in seafood processing, home textile and handicrafts sub-sector.

He was awarded the National 'Export Gold Trophy' for a record eleven times for the diversification of export items and the highest volume of export.

Abu Alam Chowdhury served as the vice president and director of FBCCI for 6 terms, covering 12 years in the apex trade body. He was the president of Bangla Craft and founder president of Bangladesh Craft and Giftware Association.

He also served as the vice president of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) during 2008-2010. He is also the founder member of Daily Financial Express, a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh, and a former EC member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Abu Alam Chowdhury’s Namaj-e-Janajah will be held on Wednesday, March 1 2023 at Nikunja-1 Jame Mosque after Zuhr prayer.

FBCCI President Jashim Uddin expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Abu Alam Chowdhury. In a condolence message, Jashim Uddin said that the FBCCI will always remember the contribution of Abu Alam Chowdhury to the business community.

The FBCCI president prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Barrister Md Sameer Sattar and members of the board also expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Abu Alam Chowdhury.
