Former health minister Mohammed Nasim has passed away at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital on Saturday (June 13).
"He died after suffering a cardiac arrest around 11am on Saturday," his son, Tanvir Shakil Joy confirmed the news to The Business Post.
Nasim was 72 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Nasim's body will be kept in the morgue of the hospital on Saturday, said state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
“His namaz-e-janaza will be held at 10:30 am on Sunday at Banani Jame Masjid in Dhaka and will be buried at Banani graveyard,” he added.
Earlier on Friday night, an emergency meeting of a 12-member medical board was held through a videoconference after deterioration of his health condition. Nasim’s son was present at the meeting.
The medical board was formed on Monday.
The former minister underwent a successful surgery after his condition deteriorated on June 5 following a stroke while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A day before that, his health condition improved and he was scheduled to be shifted to a cabin from ICU.
On June 2, Nasim tested positive for coronavirus.
Nasim had been acting as the convenor for the 14-party ruling alliance built around the heft of Awami League.

Born on April 2, 1948, Mohammed Nasim served as the former Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Home Affairs of the government of Bangladesh respectively during 2014–2019 and 1999–2001.
