Former mayor of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) and Awami League leader Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, who died from coronavirus while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital early today, was laid to eternal rest next to his parents’ graves in Sylhet in the afternoon.
His first namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) was held at Chhararpar Mosque in the city at 2:00pm.
Later, he was buried next to his parents’ graves at the SCC graveyard in the city’s Manik Pir Tila area at 3:00pm after a second namaz-e-janaza at the shrine of Manik Pir.
On June 5, Kamran tested positive for coronavirus. He got admitted to a Sylhet hospital the next day. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on June 7 where he died at 2:30am today.
Kamran had been the president of Awami League’s Sylhet city unit for 17 years.
