Airport Armed Police Battalion has arrested the leader of a swindling gang, Md Javed, on the charge of cheating passengers and visitors at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Mohammad Ziaul Haque, additional superintendent of police of APBn, said Javed was arrested at the airport in the early hours of Wednesday.
He said that Javed had been cheating passengers in the airport area for a long time.
“There are various cases against Javed including cheating, grabbing passport and travel documents of migrant workers, extorting money from passengers’ relatives, and extorting money from people impersonating police,” he said.
Ziaul said that Javed was arrested at least four times on various charges and the APBn took action against him. But after serving various terms in jail, Javed again gets involved in the same scam after freeing from jail.
Javed has also built an airport-centric clique in his own name. He has five to six active members in this gang who have been arrested by the APBn at various times and legal action taken against them, he said.
