The United States embassy in Dhaka has issued a statement condoling the families of victims of recent religious violence in Bangladesh.

US embassy on its Facebook page said, “Freedom of religion is sacrosanct. Everyone must remain steadfast in opposing targeted violence and orchestrated hate, and work to ensure all are able to attend a religious service or celebration without fear of violence because of their faith.”

The statement also said, “The United States stands with Bangladeshis of all beliefs calling to preserve diversity, unity, and mutual respect.”

On October 13, several puja mandaps were attacked after a copy of Holy Quran was found at a mandap at Nanuar Dighi in Cumilla. Later, the violence spread to several other districts in the country.

The next day, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed in 22 districts to maintain the law and order.
