Freight vehicle movement to remain suspended, not public transport: State minister

Movement of vehicles carrying goods will remain suspended, not public transport, for nine days before and after Eid-ul-Azha with the aim to contain the transmission of Covid-19.

Clarifying his earlier remark on suspension of public transportation, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Earlier, we said that public transport would remain suspended for five days before and three days after Eid. That was a misunderstanding. Now it has been decided that transport of goods will be closed.”

"As far as I understand, the train-bus will also run,” the minister added.

The state minister said that he had discussed the matter with the cabinet secretary.

The state minister was presiding over a meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to determine the course of action including launch, ferry, steamer movement and ensuring safety of passengers.
