Gas pipeline blast at N’ganj: 2 probe committees formed

Two separate probe committees have been formed to investigate the explosion in a gas pipeline at a garment factory in Fatullah, the industrial belt in Narayanganj that left 14 workers burnt.

The Ministry of Labour and Narayanganj district administration formed the two respective committees, in coordination with Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, the Fire Service and Civil Defence, and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments.

However, the number of the members of the committees and heads could not be known.

Naryanganj district administration’s Additional District Magistrate Moushumi Bain Hira has already visited the spot as part of the investigation on Friday noon.

She said that actions would be taken upon an investigation report in this regard.

On Thursday afternoon, at least 14 workers of ‘Crony Apparels Limited’, a knit composite garment factory, reportedly sustained burn injuries following a gas pipeline explosion in Fatullah upazila.

The injured were Palash Kanti Mandal, Jitu, Mukul, Shanto, Amir Mia, Mithun Biswas, Kamrul, Rubel, Monir, Ripon, Shafiq, Mehedi, Zakir and Mahbub Kazi.

Only Jitu, who received 30 per cent burns, remains under observation with the others all now out of danger, according to doctors.
