Gazette issued lifting ban on Jamaat, Shibir

The Public Security Division - operating under the home ministry - on Wednesday issued a gazette lifting a ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir.

According to the gazette, the government cancelled the notification issued on August 28, 2024 banning Jamaat as it did not find any specific information and evidence about Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and other affiliates' involvement in terrorism and violence

The government also believes that the party has no involvement in the terrorism activities.

On August 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatra Shibir, and all related organizations under anti-terrorism laws.

The High Court ruling on August 1, 2013, declared the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami null and void. Subsequently, on December 7, 2018, the Election Commission (EC) issued a notification canceling the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Later, Jamaat-e-Islami appealed against the High Court ruling.

On November 19 of last year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed that appeal.
