Gazipur City Corporation is expected to schedule the likely May 21 election on Monday besides making the tentative schedules for Sylhet, Rajshahi, Barishal and Khulna City Corporation Elections.
The Election Commission (EC) will hold a plenary meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner on Monday in the EC premises at Agargaon for making the arrangements.
EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the minutes of the meeting will include scheduling the elections for five city corporations. The meeting is also likely to necessitate the use of electronic voting machines in the election.
The EC said they held their last elections back on June 27, 2018. The last plenary session of this nature was held back in Sept 11, 2018 and the countdown for the next election started on Sept 11 this year.
According to the EC, the rest of the City Corporations will take turns in holding the elections as Barishal and Khulna are next in line followed by Rajshahi and Sylhet.
