Ghoraghat UNO attackers claim themselves thieves: RAB

The alleged attackers arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) over the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khan, have claimed themselves as thieves.

RAB-13 Commander Reza Ahmed Ferdous made the disclosure at a press briefing held at RAB-13 Rangpur office on Friday evening.

A total of five persons were arrested over the attack carried out on Thursday. Of them, Jahangir Hossain, suspended convener of Ghoraghat upazila unit Jubo League, has been released from custody as he wasn’t found involved in the incident, said RAB.

As per the claim of an arrestee, they went to the UNO’s resident with an attempt to steal valuables. However, a thorough investigation will be conducted to find out their real motive, Reza Ahmed Ferdous told the media.

One of the arrestees has a theft case too, he said further.

UNO Wahida Khanam was critically injured in the attack carried out by miscreants at her home in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur early Thursday. Her father also suffered injuries in the attack.

Wahida was airlifted to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter and admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital.

On Friday, her brother Sheikh Farid filed a case with Ghoraghat police station against unnamed people, over the incident.
