The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has blocked links to 'dangerous' internet games — PUBG and Free Fire.
According to the court order, the BTRC instructed the concerned by sending a letter on Wednesday.
Subrata Roy Maitra, vice chairman of the BTRC, confirmed the matter.
"The Department of Telecom (DOT) was directed in this regard. In the meantime, PUBG and Free Fire have already been banned," he said.
The process of closing down other 'harmful' apps such as TikTok, Bigo Live and Likee apps had also begun, he added.
"Although we banned the link of the apps, people can run them using Virtual Private Network (VPN) as we do not have the capacity to stop this. But we will send a letter and request the authorities concerned to close these apps," Subrata Roy further said.
Meanwhile, two officials of International Internet Gateway (IIG) and internet service provider (ISP) said that PUBG and Free Fire had been stopped in the country after the BTRC direction.
The government has the ability to stop such potentially harmful content, they added.
Earlier, on August 16, Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah's virtual high court bench ordered the immediate closure of all harmful games including PUBG and Free Fire.
