Government employees are set to enjoy a 4-day holiday with the extension of Durga Puja holiday by a day.
The government has declared Thursday as a holiday to ensure smooth and joyous celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindu community.
A notification regarding this will be issued soon, said Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief adviser, who shared the information with reporters at the Dhakeshwari Temple on Tuesday morning.
Apart from this, measures are being taken to ensure that the Buddhist community can celebrate the "Kathin Chibar Dan" smoothly, he added.
With Friday and Saturday already coinciding with the Durga Puja holiday before Bijoya Dashami, the government has decided to extend the holiday by a day.
The formal celebrations of Durga Puja will begin on Wednesday, with the final day, Bijoya Dashami, falling on Sunday, October 13. On Dashami, with the immersion of the idol, Durga Puja for the Hindu community will conclude.
