Govt issues order extending lockdown till May 16

The Cabinet Division on Wednesday issued a notification extending the ongoing lockdown till 16 May.

Shops and shopping malls will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm during the extended period.

Inter-district bus service will remain suspended. But the public transports will be allowed ply inside cities and districts following health rules from May 5.

The surge in Covid cases prompted the government to go for lockdown from early April. Having failed to achieve the intended result, it imposed a complete lockdown from April 11 and extended it to April 28.

On April 28, the government issued a circular extending the lockdown till May 5.

Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded 61 more coronavirus-related deaths and 1,914 new cases in 24 hours.

The tally of recoveries rose to 695,032 with 3,870 people got cured of the disease in the 24 hours pushing the rate of recoveries to 90.78 per cent.

The rate of positivity now stands at 13.82 per cent while the death rate 1.53 per cent, said the Directorate General of Health Services.
