Following all educational institutions across Bangladesh, primary schools have been declared shut in light of the ongoing unrest.

The primary and mass education ministry announced the closure of all government primary schools, primary schools run by Child Welfare Trust and learning centres run by Non-Formal Education Bureau in city corporation areas of eight divisional cities until further notice.

Primary and Mass Education Ministry Public Relations Officer Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin made the disclosure on Wednesday morning, saying that the decision has been taken considering the safety of young children.

Earlier, due to the unrest triggered by the quota reform movement, the education ministry had issued a notification announcing indefinite closure of all secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions and polytechnic institutes across the country.

At the same time, the HSC examination on July 18 has been postponed as well.

Moreover, on Tuesday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) directed the closure of all public and private universities of the country. A circular signed by Secretary of the commission Ferdous Zaman made the announcement.

It mentioned that considering the safety of the students, the educational programmes of all public and private universities of the country and university-affiliated medical, textile, engineering and other colleges will be closed until further notice.

At the same time, for the safety of the students, instructions were given to vacate the residence halls.

Last night around 10:30pm, a National University notification stated that it has stopped all classes and examinations for an indefinite period considering the safety of the students.

All colleges and institutions affiliated to the National University will remain closed until further orders, it added.
