Govt provides Tk 9.52 crore for flood victims: Enamur

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman today said the government has so far allocated over 9.52 crore taka to help the flood victims cope with their plights.

“Of those, 4.42 crore taka in cash was allocated for the flood affected people, while 1.58 crore taka for procuring cattle feed and 19.5 lakh taka for rebuilding homes,” he told a press briefing after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat here.

Besides, Enamur said, the government allocated 1.81 lakh dry food packets and 650 bundle CI sheets to the people affected from flooding this year.

On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the government given an allocation of over 1.68 lakh metric tonnes of rice under its vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme in 64 districts, including 33 flood-hit ones, he said.

The state minister said about 1,00,06,869 families were benefited from the progarmme, while each family got 10 kg of rice.

He said his ministry has already received the reports sent by the district administrations assessing the loss and damage caused by flood, and a future work plan will be finalised accordingly.

Enamur said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already asked the authorities concerned to start rehabilitation process to this end and she assured of providing additional allocation if necessary.

He said as flood situation improved, now people started returning to their homes. So, he said, the local administrations were asked to rebuild the damaged homes of the flood victims and provide money in cash for them so that they can deal with the flood consequences.

The state minister said since June 26 following the recurrent floods, the government provided adequate food assistance for the flood affected people.

Local administrations and public representatives have been distributing the food assistance, he added.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Mohsin was present at the press briefing.
