Sixteen more Biranganas, who were violated by the Pakistani force and its collaborators during the liberation war, got recognition as freedom fighters.
Government recently issued a gazette notification regarding their recognition.
The decision of recognition came from the 73rd assembly of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA). With these 16 new Biranganas, the number of recognised Birangana freedom fighters stood at 416.
Newly-recognised Biranganas include Gulbahar Begum from Sunamgonj, Ojufa Begum from Madaripur, Anowara Begum and Rumia Khatun from Brahmanbaria, Billo Basini and Shefali Shikadar from Pirojpur, Hosne Ara Begum from Chattogram and Zahera Khatun from Narsingdi.
More recognised freedom fighters are Moirom Nesa, Hazera Begum and Priti Raini Dutt from Moulvibazar, Fatema Begum, Begna Begum and Maleka Begum from Rangpur, Shova Parvin from Noakhali are Setara Begum from Bagerhat.
