Govt so far distributes Tk4.52cr among flood victims

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief so far has distributed Tk 4.52 crore as cash among the flood stricken people in 11 flood affected districts, according to a latest report provided by the ministry on Friday.

Under the relief distribution programme, Tk 82 lakh has been distributed in Feni, each Tk 75 lakh in Cumilla and Noakhali, Tk 45 lakh in Sylhet, each Tk 35 lakh in Chattogram and Habiganj, Tk 30 lakh in Moulvibazar and Lakshmipur each, Tk 20 lakh in Cox’s Bazar, Tk 15 lakh in Brahmanbaria and Tk 10 lakh for Khagrachhari district.

In addition to this, 20,650 tonnes of rice, 15000 packets of dry food, baby food worth Tk 35 lakh and cattle feed equivalent to Tk 35 lakh have also been distributed in the flood affected districts, reports BSS.

Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruk E Azam has already visited the flood affected areas and relief distribution programme at Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chattogram and Feni districts.

Meanwhile, necessary instructions have been given to the concerned deputy commissioners of the flood affected districts to work in coordinated manner with the coordinators of Anti-discrimination student movement, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, RAB, Police Fire Services and Civil Defence, medical team and other volunteers organisations, the release added.

Around 54,64,167 people have been seriously affected due to the flood and more than 10 lakh families were marooned in 11 flood affected districts.

The devastating flood caused the death of 54 people including six women and seven children. A total of 567 medical teams are working in the flood affected areas of 11 districts for providing health care services among the people.

Among the deceased, 14 are in Cumilla, 19 in Feni, six in Chattogram, eight in Noakhali, each one in Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, Khagrachhari and Moulvibazar and three in Cox’s Bazar.

The overall flood situation has improved in Sylhet, Habiganj and Chattogram districts, while 486 unions or municipalities under 64 upazilas have been inundated due to flood water.

In order to give shelter to the flood affected people, the government has opened a total of 3,269 flood shelter centres, where 4,69,687 people and more than 38,000 livestock have taken refuge.

The coordinators of the Anti-discrimination student movement have collected – some 1,15,105 packets of relief packages – containing dry food, cloth and water – which have already been sent to the flood affected areas through the Department of Disaster Management(DDM), the release mentioned.

Besides this, the armed forces have also disbursed 1,94,285 packets relief and 19,260 packets cooked food among the flood affected people.
