The health ministry on Sunday (July 12) suspended Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, a cardiac surgeon of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, after she was arrested in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates.
Health Services Division (HSD) Secretary Abdul Mannan confirmed the matter to The Business Post. The suspension order will come into effect from Sunday, he said.
On the same day, the health ministry served a show-cause notice to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General AbulKalam Azad over the Regent Hospital scam.
The DGHS on Saturday (July 11) said in a press release that it took an initiative to sign a agreement with Regent Hospital to turn it into a dedicated one for Covid-19 hospital, after being directed by higher authorities.
In the show cause notice, the ministry asked him to explain what matters did he consider while signing agreement with Regent Hospital and what did he mean by “higher authorities of the ministry” in the statement.
