Govt to build more int'l stadiums

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel on Thursday said the government has a plan to construct more international stadiums in the country, while the country now has 10 international stadiums.

The state minister said this while responding to a star-marked question raised by treasury bench lawmaker Begum Nazma Akter of Women seat-46 at the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangad with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The international stadiums are Bangabandhu National Stadium, Sher-E -Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka, Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Narayanganj, Shahid Chandu Stadium in Bogura, Zahur Ahmed Chowhdury stadium in Chattogram, M A Aziz Stadium in Chattogram, Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, Bir Sherestho Shahid Sipahi Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium at Kamlapur in Dhaka and Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka.

Russel said the government also has a plan to construct more international stadiums at Cox's Bazar, Cumilla, Feni and Manikganj.

Even the project for construction of an International Cricket and Football stadium in Feni would be taken following completion of a feasibility study.
