Govt to develop skill of 8.4 lakh people by 2024

The government plans to train 8,41,680 people in 11 priority industries and services sectors by 2024.

It has been implementing ‘Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP)’ to provide inclusive skills development training based on the demand of the industry sector, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said while placing a Tk 6,03,681 crore budget in parliament on Thursday.

The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) is working to coordinate skills development training programmes under 28 ministries to accelerate skills development programmes, he said.

NSDA has been instrumental in building skilled human resources by setting up skills training standards, certification of trainees and accessors, standards and curricula, development of competency-based training materials, recognition of prior experience, recognition of mutual skills, among others as per demand from domestic and international markets.

As many as 1,33,12,192 Bangladeshis went abroad with jobs between 1976 and May this year, according to the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training. The majority of them, 32.72 per cent went to the oil-rich Saudi Arabia.
