Govt to kick off cash support scheme for 50 lakh families from May 14

The government is set to kick off cash support programme for 50 lakh coronavirus-affected poor families from May 14 with disbursing Tk 2,500 in cash assistance for each family and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the initiative.

Finance division on Monday issued a circular to disburse Tk 1,257 crore. Of the total amount, Tk 627 cr from budget 1 and Tk 630 crore will come from budget 3 wing against relief ministry.

According to circular, the mobile numbers of poor families will be collected while making the list. The money will be sent to them through bKash, Rocket, Nagad, SureCash or any other available services. No one will be getting the money in cash as helicopter money.

The government will pay Tk 7 crore to the money transfer firms. The money transfer firms will receive Tk 6 per Tk 1000 cr transfer.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said the prime minister will launch programme adding that these listed families will get assistance before Eid festival.
