State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Saturday said that a reduction in fuel price in the global market will be directly reflected in the Bangladesh market.

He said fuel prices were also adjusted in 2016 in accordance with the global market.

While talking to the journalists, Nasrul said considering the overall situation, prices of diesel and kerosene prices have been adjusted with the international market on November 4 to prevent smuggling.

The price of diesel is still low in Bangladesh compared to the neighbouring countries, he said, adding that “Currently per litre diesel price is Tk 104 (89.79 rupees) in Kolkata of India.”

Due to the low price in the country, there is a huge possibility of fuel smuggling as a large number of trucks enters the country through 26 land ports every day, he added.

“We have to focus on the electric vehicles especially in the cases of public transports which will ensure environment-friendly transportation in the country, he said.

Electric vehicles are cost-effective that will also reduce the cost of oil import, he added.

Diesel and kerosene prices were increased by Tk 15 on Wednesday. A day after, the retail price of 12kg LPG (liquefied Petroleum Gas) cylinder was raised by Tk 54 to Tk 1,313.
