The government has decided to procure additional one lakh tonne urea and one lakh tonne Diammonium phosphate (DAP) in current fiscal to ensure crop production and food security, an official release said.
“The government has re-fixed chemical fertilisers’ demand for the current fiscal year in need of proper and extended cultivation as additional one lakh tonne urea and one lakh tonne Diammonium phosphate (DAP) to be procured through competition on an emergency basis,” it said.
The additional amount of urea will be collected by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) and DAP by the agriculture ministry, it added.
Earlier, the demand for urea fertiliser was fixed at 24.50 lakh tonnes and DAP at 13 lakh tonnes. Now urea fertiliser’s demand stood at 25.50 lakh tonnes and DAP at 14 lakh tonnes.
