“According to the guidelines, the width of rural roads will be 10 feet. At the Union and Upazila Parishad levels, the width of roads will be 12 feet and 16-20 feet, respectively," the Minister told UNB. “A structural design has also been chalked out to ensure the quality of the road construction work. The government will soon issue a gazette notification in this regard."
On allegations of substandard work against LGRD, the Minister said a minimum allocation for the development work of roads and bridges is the main reason behind substandard quality. “But now the ongoing construction work of roads and bridges is better. Anyway, we are looking into allegations of irregularities, as claimed by some media, and legal action will be taken against those involved."
Tazul said Union Parishads are playing a vital role in the country's development and it will be impossible to take the nation forward without them. He also stressed the need for strengthening the activities of the Union Parishads.
