State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on Tuesday said the government is working relentlessly for rehabilitating the flood victims living in different parts of the country.

"The data on the extent of damage has already reached us. The government is taking immediate steps to compensate the losses. We have enough food, rice, tin, housing materials in stock," he said.

The state minister said this while exchanging post-Eid greetings at his office in the Secretariat. 

Secretary of the Ministry Md Kamrul Hasan, Director General of Department of Disaster Management Atiqul Haque and senior officials of the Ministry were present.

Enamur said the government has provided adequate humanitarian assistances, including cash, so that the flood victims can relish the joy of Eid. 

"On the occasion of Eid, we have already paid Tk 2 crore in cash, 1,000 metric tons of rice, 4,000 bundles of tin and Tk 1.20 crore for housing wages. We have plans to increase relief further. We have adequate relief stocks including cash, clothes and tin. The government has the capacity to provide the amount of relief that will be needed," he added.

When the floods in Sylhet-Sunamganj were happening, the ministry faced the shortage of GR cash, he said, adding that the ministry sought Tk 10 crore to the Prime Minister and the premier allocated Tk 20 crore the next day.

Besides, the premier has allotted Tk 10,000 to 5,500 people and Tk 10 crore in Sylhet and Sunamganj, Enamur added.
