Graft case: Court accepts charge sheet against ex-OC Pradeep, wife

A Chattogram court has accepted the charge sheet in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against former officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife.

Senior Special Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman on Wednesday accepted the charge sheet, said ACC lawyer Sanwar Hossain Lavlu.

Meanwhile, the court rejected the bail petition filed by Pradeep and also issued an arrest warrant against his wife Chumki Karon as she remained absconding since Pradeep’s arrest in the Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.

On August 23, 2020, ACC filed the case against sacked OC Pradeep and his wife for amassing wealth worth over Tk 4 crore.

Earlier, Pradeep and his wife were given a notice to submit the statement of their assets and they submitted it after getting the notice.

Following their statement, after a long investigation, the ACC has reportedly found information about Pradeep and his wife that they had acquired assets worth more than Tk 4 crore.

Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31, 2020.

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.

Earlier, the same court asked the deputy commissioners of Cox's Bazar and Chattogram to confiscate the assets of Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife in a graft case.

On June 27 this year, a Cox's Bazar court framed charges against 15 accused, including Pradeep, in Sinha murder case.
