The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against a medical technologist of Khulna 250-bed General Hospital for embezzling Tk 2.57 crore.
Deputy director Khandaker Kamruzzaman of ACC's Khulna office filed the case against Prakash Kumar Das under section 409/420 of the Penal Code and 5(2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, for embezzling Tk 2.57 crore, collected as Covid test fee.
According to the ACC sources, the authorities concerned formed a five-member committee to probe whether the money collected as Covid test fee have been deposited to state exchequer properly.
Led by district civil surgeon Dr Niaj Mohammad, the committee during its investigation found that the hospital collected Tk 4.24 crore as Covid test fee from July, 2020, to July, 2021.
Prakash as the designated official deposited Tk 1.66 crore to state exchequer only and embezzled the rest himself.
