The grand finale of National Steam Olympiad - 2023 organised by ITSerect Technologies was held at national museum in Dhaka on Saturday.

Elementary to university level students from various districts of the country participated in this grand event to showcase the exceptional and innovative talents of students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

Social Welfare and Chief Sponsor of National Steam Olympiad Dipu Moni was present online as the chief guest while the event was presided over by the National Steam Olympiad Convener and Chief Advisor, Member of the University's Sanctioning Commission, Professor Dr Sajjad Hossain, said a media release on Saturday.

The quiz and project exhibition started from 9am and the closing and prize distribution program started from 12pm noon. Hundreds of students, teachers and industrialists from all over the country attended the programme.

Special guest of the program ASM Masud Kamal said innovation is needed for the dignity of a nation, when we have our own innovation, people from other countries will come to our country to do business.

"We are still dependent on other countries in all aspects, in order to reduce this dependency, these young people who are there should start thinking innovatively from the school level. From next time we will organise such programs together on a larger and larger scale," he said.

Satya Prasad Majumdar, the special guest of the programme said, girls need to be taught more about science and engineering, when they become mothers they can encourage their children more in science and engineering.

National STEAM Olympiad 2023 is an extraordinary event to unleash the talent of the youth.

Organiser said students of 6 different levels participated in a total of 8 categories without any registration fee. The number of students registered for quiz and project from 310 schools, 61 universities, 132 colleges, 22 polytechnic institutes and 25 madrasas across Bangladesh was 57976. Quiz registration number was 55749.

The number of registrations for the project was 2227 and 53 people served as mentors and judges.

Apart from this, 30 clubs, 290 campus ambassadors and 4702 volunteers from various educational institutions across the country were directly and indirectly associated with this Olympiad.

Organisers said, the aim and objective of the National Steam Olympiad is to encourage students to develop their awareness and skills to prepare for the upcoming challenges and changes by laying emphasis on various skills related to the fourth industrial revolution. This Olympiad has been organised with emphasis on 5 subjects that includes raising STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) awareness among the youth and helping build a skilled nation.
