Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, the founder chairman of PHP Family and Ekushey Padak winner for social service, has said that greatness in life does not depend on abundance, but on good character.

He made the remarks while delivering the keynote at the Spring Orientation 2024 programme of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) at the UITS PHP Square in Dhaka on Saturday.

KM Tanjib-ul Alam, senior advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, was present as the chief guest while UITS Vice-Chancellor Md Abu Hashan Bhuiyan presided over the event.

UITS Register Mohammad Kamrul Hasan moderated the event while Md Ashraful Islam, the dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at UITS, delivered the welcome remarks.

Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman said, “I see in front of me a group of lively young people who will be future leaders. If you want to grow in life, do not be in contact with bad people, and always be in contact with good people. Then Allah will help you.”

“Life is not qualified by speaking fluent English, branded clothes and living in big houses. It is all about the number of faces that wear smiles upon hearing your name. Failing in the first attempt is learning and the end effort never dies,” he said.

“You must plan to be successful. I am not here to give a lecture. I am here to tell you some rituals, disciplines, teachings and experiences that I have acquired throughout my life.

“I hope you all will be much bigger than me because there was no Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman to tell me these things. Do not think you are weak, do not neglect anyone, and do not waste time,” he told the new students.

Addressing the event, KM Tanjib-ul Alam said, “Mistake is a process of learning. Every mistake is a lesson in how to do the job. Don't be afraid to make mistakes in the next four years. If you follow the words of Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, you will get results throughout your life.”

“Remember, the answer is always no when you never asked for it. Always keep promises to others. Don't be afraid to think. Don't be afraid to make mistakes,” he said.

Abu Hashan Bhuiyan said, “Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman is our motivation and role model. His words are instructive for us and are also exceptional and a path for life.”

Ashraful Islam said, “Till now, 20,000 students graduated from our university and they are proving themselves competently. Education along with co-curricular programmes keeps our students a step ahead of others.”

Abdul Mannan Bhuyean, the legal adviser of the UITS Board of Trustees, said, “So far, 1,500 students have passed from our law department and they are successfully proving themselves in different courts of the country.”

“Your hard labour should be accompanied by good intentions. Do whatever is necessary to achieve the goal,” he told the new students.

KM Saiful Islam Khan, the adviser of the UITS Board of Trustees, UITS Treasurer Siraj Uddin Ahmed and the deans of all faculties were also present at the event among others.

UITS, the first IT-based private university in Bangladesh, is a concern of the PHP Family. The university is running 17 programmes in 10 departments under four faculties.
