One more victim of the deadly explosion at a seven-storey building in Gulistan’s Siddique Bazar area died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday morning, taking the death toll to 23.
Mirza Azam, 36, who was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the institute, succumbed to his burn injuries around 10am.
Confirming the matter, the institute’s Chief Coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen said the victim sustained 80 per cent burns in his body.
Azam, who hailed from Patuakhali, had been working at a sanitary shop in the seven-storey Queen’s Sanitary Market, where the blast occurred on March 7.
Now, seven patients are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina burn institute.
In addition, 15 others are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Of the patients, five are being treated at the hospital’s burn unit.
