Amid the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon, a man - wearing a white shirt and helmet - was recorded shooting his gun at protesting students on July 15. The clip went viral on social media platform Facebook.

Students identified, caught, and gave a thorough beating to the man on Thursday, then handed him over to the Army.

On July 15, there was a clash between protesting students and Chhatra League leaders and activists on the street in front of Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University. At that time, the young man was seen standing with BCL leaders and shooting with a pistol.

Leaders and activists of Chhatra League, Jubo League and their affiliated organisations shot and killed the students with guns during the Boishommo Birodhi Chattra Andolon movement. Footage and pictures of them shooting with guns are still widely available on social media platforms.

After detaining three such culprits from the New Market area on Thursday afternoon, the students took them inside Dhaka College. They tied the gun-toting viral man to a pole, and gave him a good beating.

They are - Sohail (32), Hasibur Rahman Shawon (34), and Aminul Islam Sumon (37).

On a tip off, New Market police station personnel rescued the trio  with the help of the Army and took them to the Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital for treatment.

New Market police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Uddin confirmed the matter to Amader Shomoy.
