Hajj management in 2022 to be tech-based: State minister

Informing that Hajj management in 2022 would be technology-based, State Minister for Religious Affairs Ministry Md Faridul Haque Khan said on Tuesday.

He said the pilgrims and concerned people will be trained up for taking part in the Hajj under the management.

"In the situation of Covid-19 infection, Hajj pilgrims may have to perform Hajj using various apps. Currently, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi is conducting the Umrah activities using apps," he said.

The state minister made the statement while speaking as the chief guest at a preparatory meeting on using information technologies for conducting the Hajj in 2022 in a smoother way, said a press release.

Officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and stakeholders involved in Hajj activities joined the meeting at the conference room of the ministry at Secretariat here, it added.

The Saudi government has firmly expected that the holy Hajj will be held in 2022 as the overall coronavirus situation has improved, Faridul said.

"We, however, have to wait until the next Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia Hajj agreement for the overall direction of the next Hajj,” he added.

Concerned officials, guides, representatives of Hajj agencies and pilgrims will be made aware of technology use in Hajj management and steps will be taken to give them training.

Presided over by acting Secretary of the Religious Affairs Md Abdul Awal Hawlader, Additional Secretary Md Matiul Islam, Director General of the Islamic Foundation Dr Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Director of Dhaka Hajj Office Md Saiful Islam, President of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) M Shahadat Hossain Taslim and Director of the Business Automation Limited Md Bazlul Haque Bishwas joined the meeting, among others.
