Half fair: Ctg bus owners likely to follow Dhaka's lead
Protesters from a number of colleges hold demonstration at the capital’s Dhanmondi 27 intersection on November 28, 2021, against the recent death of a Notre Dame College student, and demanding 50 per cent discount in city bus fares – Rajib Dhar

Chattogram city bus owners gave a positive indication to cut fares by half for students, revealed Chattogram Metropolitan Bus Owners Association Secretary-General Belayet Hossain Belal on Friday.

In the face of massive protest, a meeting between several bus owners’ associations followed where this was agreed upon. It would be announced at a press conference on Sunday, Belayet Hossain Belal said.

"We sat down with the various bus owners’ association leaders and discussed half fare for the students and several other issues.”

The bus fare for the students at the port city would be similar to that of Dhaka, he hinted.

Demanding half bus fare in Chattogram, students from various educational institutions had been staging demonstrations for the last few days, expressing solidarity with the students of Dhaka.
